What to Look for When Buying Used Four Wheelers

Whether you’re sourcing a single machine for a small operation or adding to a fleet, these are the key factors to evaluate:

Engine Size & Power: Every ATV and UTV is rated by engine displacement (cc). Smaller engines (250–450cc) suit recreational trail use, while larger engines (700cc+) deliver the torque needed for hauling, towing, and working rough terrain. Know the demands of your land and operation before selecting a machine.

Drive Configuration: Two-wheel drive (2WD) machines are lighter and nimble for trail use. Four-wheel drive (4WD), especially models with selectable or on-demand 4WD – is essential for mud, deep snow, steep slopes, and demanding ranch terrain. Know your land before committing to a drivetrain.

Hour Meter Reading: Like mileage on a vehicle, hours indicate usage. A well-maintained ATV or UTV with 500–1,000 hours on a quality brand can still have significant life remaining if properly serviced.

Cargo & Towing Capacity: UTVs designed for work carry rated bed payloads and towing capacities. If you plan to haul feed, fence posts, or equipment, verify the machine’s rated capacity meets your needs. Overloading can shorten the life of the drivetrain and chassis significantly.

Cab & Comfort Features: Side-by-sides range from open-air sport models to fully enclosed cabs with heat and A/C. For extreme weather or long daily operating hours, a cab enclosure, roof, and windshield can be the difference between a machine you’ll use year-round and one that sits idle in winter.

(A minimum bid amount is different, this is the "starting" bid you select to get the sale started.)

With this option, once the minimum bid amount is first entered by a buyer, the item will sell at the highest bidder that day! No matter what, if you get a bid, the item will sell! It's proven that absolute auctions bring the highest bids since buyers know they have a chance to win the auction!
