LOCATION:

The Silver Creek Ranch is located just 1 mile west of Forestburg or 8 miles east of Woonsocket.  The Sioux Falls Regional Airport is roughly 1 ½ hours away and handles multiple commercial flights a day with American Airlines, United, Allegiant, Frontier and Delta.

Woonsocket is a vibrant and active community located in south central South Dakota on Highway 34 – 24 miles from Huron, 35 miles from Mitchell, 108 miles from Sioux Falls, and 20 miles from Interstate 90. They offer over 60 businesses and services, medical services including a clinic and nursing facility, full-service banking, a grocery store, and a K-12 school system.  Woonsocket is the county seat for Sanborn County and the home to the Sanborn County Courthouse which houses the following offices: Auditor, County Bus, Clerk of Courts, Director of Equalization, Extension/4-H, Nurse, Public Welfare, Register of Deeds, Treasurer, and Veterans Service Office.  They are home to a beautiful lake, and offer many recreational opportunities, with peaceful and friendly small-town living.  During the hunting season large numbers of hunters fly in and enjoy the freedom that South Dakota can offer. Hours of hunting can be spent around the countryside of Woonsocket chasing pheasant, deer, coyote, duck, and geese.

WILDLIFE:

The diverse landscape of The Silver Creek Ranch is characterized by an assortment of habitats and an abundant array of natural resources. For many outdoor enthusiasts, no other wildlife species in the state is as recognized or valued as the ring-necked pheasant. Though pheasants are not a native species to North America, they have become naturalized to this mosaic of grassland, wetlands and agricultural land habitat found on this property. From the first successful releases of pheasants in 1908 to the current estimated population of around 7 million birds, South Dakotans and our visitors have built a rich and deeply rooted tradition around pheasants and pheasant hunting. The opening weekend in October is an event anticipated not only by pheasant hunters, but also family and friends who are reunited during this social gathering.

South Dakota is one of the top pheasant harvest states and claims the top number of birds per hunter per season. Sanborn County and The Silver Creek Ranch are regarded as one of the best pheasant hunting spots in the nation, a position it has maintained for decades.  You will also find an abundance of white-tailed deer as well as ducks and geese.

If you enjoy fishing, plentiful supplies of fish can also be found on the James River which is only 2 miles to the east.
