Property Description

Mundy Ranch, Rio Arriba County, New Mexico

Legacy Mule Deer never die, they just get larger and larger, as passed down from generation to generation. Not sure how much bigger a 49” mule deer can get but if there was ever a legacy ranch to go with the 288” Mundy Buck, the +/-2874 deeded acres of Mundy Ranch is the one.

If one looks from Canada to Mexico, it would be difficult to find a more beautiful, well-watered game mecca as versatile as the Mundy Ranch. About 10 minutes south of Chama, New Mexico on paved access and within a couple hours of Taos and Santa Fe you’ll find the Mundy Ranch.

The terrain varies from 7500-9000 ft. with sub-alpine to alpine terrain.  While Rio Arriba County is ground zero for producing the most Boone & Crockett Mule deer entries every decade since the 1960s, the ranch hosts one of the densest elk populations in existence. The ranch qualifies for unlimited landowner deer tags and +/- 10 elk tags annually with 300+ bulls the norm. Merriam's Gobblers and black bear (all 4 color phases) also populate the ranch in high numbers.

The Mundy Ranch has been extensively managed by the current owner for trophy quality elk and mule deer. 180-200 inch mule deer are quite common and if you don’t shoot the first mature bull elk you see, 300+ bulls are also expected.   Terrain consists of ponderosas, oak, aspens, Douglas Fir and Blue Spruce. The solar powered mountain cabin, complete with indoor plumbing, hidden and tucked back in the aspens, will be your spike camp to wake up with the bulls and bucks.  The cabin porch is ideal for enjoying your trout dinner caught from one of your 2 stocked ponds (total of 15 ponds), and being serenaded by the bugles of elk from your meadows.  Chavez Creek makes for an excellent small water river fishery or try out that Sage Fly Rod on some monster rainbows (into the pounds) in the 2 stocked ponds.

Excellent road & stalking trail system extends throughout the ranch.  The top half of the ranch is made up of aspen groves & meadows and the bottom tier is graced with ponderosas, oak and rolling hills. Power and numerous places to put your dream home are ideal.  Views that rival Jackson Hole and trophy game that is unequalled both in trophy quality and quantity, the Mundy would be the one that you compare all others to….Trophy Rainbows, World Class Mule Deer, Mature Rocky Mountain Bull Elk, ….

The ranch is very accessible to the Midwest, Texas, Colorado and the Southwest.  Pagosa Springs Jet Airport is approximately 70-80 minutes away.

Holdings of this size are more and more difficult to acquire and with the stock market fluctuations, perhaps its time you diversified into a quality land holding without some huge improvement value added.
